The club night's name is an homage to the feminist movement 'Reclaim the Night'MAMUSO KALLON with permission for Varsity

Cambridge is set to host its first female and non-binary club night next Monday (29/04) as a part of the “Reclaim the Night” campaign.

The event will take place at Mash, and is organised by Girton College’s feminist society in collaboration with fourteen other feminist societies across the university.

The event has been titled “Reclaim the Club” after the feminist movement “Reclaim the Night,” under which name the Student’s Union (SU) ran an annual march on Parker’s Piece against sexual violence at the end of Lent term.

The marketing and events manager of Mash said the initiative promises “an unforgettable night of music, camaraderie, and solidarity”.

A representative of the SU’s feminist magazine Gender Agenda, which helped with the organisation of the club night, told Varsity that the event aims to “carry through on the demands made at the Reclaim the Night march, to give people a safe space”.

“The fact that so many feminist groups have collaborated on this event just goes to show that we are experiencing a feminist renaissance in this University,” they continued.

Cambridge club nights have recently been criticised over an influx in drink spiking, which led to a boycott of club nights in late 2021 organised by the Girls Night In campaign.

The event will be giving out 100 free reusable keychain drink covers to the first guests to arrive, supplied by Gender Agenda and the SU Women’s Campaign.

All profits made from the night have been pledged to the Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre, a specialist local organisation that provides free support to women and girls across the county who have experienced rape and sexual violence.
